Chemerty (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website at chemerty.com — an interactive chemistry learning platform. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it.

2. Data we collect

We collect the following categories of data when you use Chemerty:

• Account data: email address, display name, and hashed password, provided when you register.
• Progress data: task completions, scores, accuracy, streak history, and XP earned as you use the platform.
• Usage data: pages visited, features used, and timestamps, collected automatically via Vercel Analytics.
• Device data: browser type, operating system, and IP address, collected automatically by our hosting infrastructure.

We do not collect payment information directly — any future purchases are handled by a third-party payment processor.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the Chemerty platform;
• Display your progress, XP, level, and leaderboard position;
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset);
• Detect and prevent fraud and abuse;
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Data sharing

We share data only with:

• Supabase — our database and authentication provider (stores account and progress data);
• Vercel — our hosting and analytics provider;
• OpenAI — to evaluate your submitted answers (answer text is sent to the OpenAI API; we do not send your name or email);
• Cloudflare — for CAPTCHA verification during sign-up.

All third-party providers are contractually required to handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

5. Data retention

We retain your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you;
• Request correction of inaccurate data;
• Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”);
• Object to or restrict certain processing;
• Data portability (receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format).

7. Cookies and tracking

Chemerty uses essential session cookies required for authentication. We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, privacy-friendly usage statistics — no personally identifiable tracking cookies are set by default.

8. Children's privacy

Chemerty is intended for students aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and Row-Level Security on our database. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of material changes. Continued use of Chemerty after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
